Naumachia

Europa, the smallest of Jupiter’s Galilean moons, has oceans ten times the depth of Earth’s, hidden beneath a thick layer of jagged ice on its surface. In 1928, Earth launched the Naumachia Missions, a series of high-profile ships sent to explore these mysterious waters.  Cryogenically frozen, their unlucky crews — a mix of submariners, scientists, and thrill seekers — awoke years later when their ships reached Europa… 

Only to find Earth unresponsive to any signals, and the oceans far more fearsome than anticipated.
